the miniseries prying eyes will be the first Brazilian production to reach the Netflix catalog in 2023. The work, signed by Argentine Marcela Citterio, tells a story of voyeurism and mystery, and premieres on the platform in the first hour of January 1st. O canaltech already watched half of the 10 episodes and tells you the first impressions.

To begin with, the work focuses on the life of Miranda (Débora Nascimento) — a beautiful and intelligent hacker whose hobby is to observe the lives of others. Her hobby gets even more interesting when Cléo (Emanuelle Araujo), a luxury prostitute, moves into the building across the street and she starts watching her every afternoon and night.

Over time, the two end up creating a bond of friendship, but Miranda’s life changes dramatically when Cléo asks her to take care of her dog for a weekend, while she travels with a rich client.

The plot twist

From that point, the plot begins for good. While Cléo disappears, the hacker finds herself involved with a rich family, full of secrets and rottenness. Not sure who to trust, she has to fight to find her friend, even if it puts her own life in danger.

And, it is worth mentioning, the first hit of the production is precisely the fact that the turns do not take long to happen. In the first episode, we see Miranda accidentally killing a man and trying to cover up her mistake.

The chapters that follow also end with an interesting hook into the next one, making it easy to end the series in “one sitting”. The feeling of “I want more” was a constant while watching the episodes.

Acts that please

So that the plot prying eye had a good pace, it had to have a good text — thanks to Citterio and the Brazilian Camila Raffanti, who was responsible for the adaptation — and a competent cast.

Débora Nascimento and Emanuelle Araujo deliver good performances, which is not new, since we have already seen them shine in several soap operas on the open television network. In addition to them, veteran Débora Duarte is also impressive, although she has little screen time.

She gives life to Miranda’s grandmother, a lady with dementia and memory loss who barely remembers the important facts of her life.

The team is completed by Gabriela Moreyra, Gabriella Muglia, Sacha Bali, Gustavo Machado and Nikolas Antunes and Ângelo Rodrigues, who play, respectively, Heitor and Fernando, two brothers-in-law who become emotionally involved with Miranda.

The group’s harmony appears on screen and makes the plot more fluid and less truncated. She is also fundamental in the sex and sadomasochism scenes, which are quite frequent in the plot.

female gaze

Speaking of the explicit scenes, they are done with great care and attention, and that is the merit of the predominantly female team, made up of general director Luciana Oliveira and episode directors Fabrizia Pinto and Letícia Veiga. They had a sensitive look in order to avoid unnecessary exposure of actors and actresses.

In addition to them, the series also had intimacy coordinator Barbara Harrington, who taught the team how to create scenes without running the risk of falling into harassment. More than the act itself, the professional was also concerned with the costumes, with the emotional state of the cast and with the safety of the actresses who were tied to the ropes.

This care can be seen on screen and contributes to the scenes making sense and not just “sex for the sake of sex”.

Another interesting point of prying eye is to explore the fetish of voyeurism, a theme rarely portrayed in Brazilian productions. Although it was not deepened in the first few episodes, the expectation is that it will be better developed throughout the series.

After all, is it worth watching Olhar Indiscreto?

With a well-written, cohesive and well-knit plot, the miniseries prying eye worth playing and has the potential to conquer the Brazilian public (and even the international one). The first five episodes deliver the production proposal and do not skimp on romance, mystery and eroticism, urging the viewer to watch more.

If the script remains without holes and the plot remains cohesive — without “sausage stuffing” as it did You (You) ?? prying eye will have a great chance of being a success for the streaming giant.

If you were curious to watch the series, write it down: prying eye premiere at midnight January 1st?? at Netflix??
