“You Can Win If You Want” is probably Dieter Bohlen’s (68) motto this year. And he won, because he’s back on the jury desk after a year’s compulsory RTL break. He celebrated his comeback in the 20th and supposedly final season with Pietro Lombardi and hinted that it might not be the last DSDS season.

It was a prelude like in a Hollywood movie. The first two minutes of the show on Saturday evening were only available to Dieter Bohlen.

The staging: Dieter alone on the beach “Somewhere in the Indian Ocean”, neglected, without contact with civilization. A message in a bottle reaches him: “Dieter, we need you! Your DSDS”. He sails across the ocean on a raft and ends up in Hamburg, whatever the weather. Make-up artists are waiting for him there. Zack. The pop titan is back to normal and shouts: “Dieter is back!”

The rest of the show also celebrates Bohlen. The show’s commentator says: “Our Dieter, he has returned home!” And: “Dieter, welcome home!” Sentences that flatter the pop titans, but also show double standards. Because it was RTL’s decision a year ago to saw off Dieter Bohlen.

This is the new jury

His foster son and colleague Pietro Lombardi (30) is just as enthusiastic about Bohlen’s DSDS comeback as he is about his own. However, Pietro seemed a bit stricter than when he was a juror last time. He still shone at Dieter’s side.

Jury novice Leony (25) made a likeable and professional impression, but went under a bit. On Twitter, a viewer commented: “The moment when you’re styled top still just the gray mouse next to you Katja Krasavice are you.”

Katja Krasavice (26) was as colorful as a rainbow. Her charisma and smile almost made her one. But: She was not only noticed by her appearance, but also by her professional opinion. Katja knows how to keep the fans engaged: Before the audience knew it, the singer was on the floor and twerking! RTL didn’t miss the chance to record their song “Gib’s mir Doggy”.

In addition to the new jury, the candidates have remained the same. Some can sing, others can’t. Some are really funny, some aren’t. This year, RTL also likes to work with cat memes in some places for amusement, which does not make the candidates appear more serious.

Who hasn’t changed either? Dieter Bohlen. He still reacts to pretty women, dropping sentences like: “I’ll immediately rewrite the text as Sexy Sexy Lady.” Or: “If that doesn’t work, then you’ll go on TV somehow.”

But the pop titan drops a bomb: It may not be the last season of DSDS after all. “If I do this for another ten years, then you can moderate the live shows, I would be proud of that,” says Bohlen to a candidate.

That doesn’t sound like a broadcast. In an interview with “Stern” a few days ago, Bohlen said he did not believe that this would be the last season of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”.

How things will continue for the show and the jurors remains exciting. The first episode was definitely a song of praise to Dieter Bohlen, which he certainly enjoyed and needed.
