The Cuban who claimed to have been deported for “a simple nonsense” after being released with the I220-A form had actually robbed a business for victims of Hurricane Ian in Florida

“Today I have been deported from the US, after spending two years, quietly, living there, they had given me the I220-A. I have entered twice. And now, because of a simple nonsense, they have brought me here, they have deported me.” stated a few days ago Ernesto Pedroso Martínez, 34, to the Univisión journalist Javier Díaz.

“I don’t know why the United States has turned its back on me, after having sacrificed myself, having come across the border,” he added.

After the commotion and concern caused by these statements, Díaz confirmed that the cause of Pedroso Martínez’s deportation had been robbery.

Last November, cybercuba had reported that this Cuban, along with another, He had been arrested in Fort Myers, South Florida, for stealing properties affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian in that territory.

Ernesto Pedroso Martinez, 34, and Noel Morales, 54, were facing charges of grand theft, aggravated by having occurred during a state of emergency, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said at the time.

According to the account of the facts, offered by the Sheriff, the suspects went to Fort Myers from Homestead claiming that they were going to help in the cleanup work after the passage of the hurricane.

However, Pedroso Martínez and Morales were seen stealing items in front of a local business and loading them onto a trailer.

Pedroso Martínez was repatriated last Friday as part of a group of 36 Cubans, on the third deportation flight carried out by the authorities of the Department of Immigration and Customs Control (ICE) to Havana in just two months.

An ICE official confirmed the flight to CyberCuba and said that the United States government continues with the strict application of immigration laws, with the determination to expel all people who do not have a legal basis to remain in the country.

On Friday it was also known that hundreds of Cuban immigrants with final order of deportation could change their luck following a ruling by the United States Supreme Court that reinstated the policy of the Joe Biden administration on the expulsion of undocumented immigrants.

The Supreme Court endorsed the strategy implemented by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2021 on the priorities of applying immigration law and deporting people who constitute threats to public safety.
