A 40-year-old Cuban appeared in the criminal court of Miami-Dade this Tuesday accused of assaulting his girlfriend with a machete twice in less than a month.

The arrest report -quoted by the local press- reveals that on June 26 the man woke up his partner by hitting her on the head with the handle of a machete, while threatening to kill her.

The next day he wanted to talk to her, but the woman refused. She was sitting on a sidewalk at Northwest 1304th Street and 62nd Street when her subject reportedly punched her in the forehead and again threatened to kill her.

At that time the attacker, a native of Guantanamo and identified as Yonerkis Turcaz, caused a wound to the woman’s right forearm with the machete and fled the scene. He could not be arrested until August 14.

In court, Turcaz’s lawyer tried to reduce his bail on the grounds that the man I was homelessbut the judge opposed it and indicated that it is a serious accusation and an assault with a machete.

The couple had started their relationship just a month before both incidents.

The Cuban, on whom a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon weighs, was imposed a bond of 7,500 dollars and is prohibited from attempting any type of communication with the victim.
