Origin of his name
The historian María Rostworowski explained that the name of Lima comes from the coastal Quechua speech that pronounced the ‘ere’ as ‘ele’. ‘Lima’ or ‘Límac’ was the pronunciation of ‘Rímac’ by the indigenous people.
Walled city
In 1684 the wall that surrounded Lima was built by order of Viceroy Melchor de Navarra y Rocafull against possible pirate attacks that never occurred. In 1868, the government of José Balta ordered its demolition.
devil stone

In block 4 of Jirón Segura is the Rospigliosi castle, of medieval style. It was built in 1929, by the architect Carlos Rospigliosi, to house the King of Spain Alfonso XIII, who never came to Lima.

When Lima had 25,534 inhabitants, in 1616, there were 2,518 religious in habit and 40 convent houses. Successive viceroys ordered that friars and nuns no longer continue to come from Spain because there were so many here.
