Cut to the Judiciary and "minimum adjustment" to the INE, anticipates Ignacio Mier

MEXICO CITY (appro).— Deputy Ignacio Mier Velazco, coordinator of the Morena Parliamentary Group, anticipated that the majority of his party will put a magnifying glass on between 15 and 25 billion pesos from the budget of the Federal Judiciary (PJF ) which he described as “excesses”.

Interviewed in the Senate, in the context of the Permanent Commission session, he said that “minimal adjustments” will be made to the budget of the National Electoral Institute (INE).

Regarding the budget for the Judiciary, the parliamentary leader stressed that “it has excesses that can range from 15,000 to 25 million pesos, including a trust. Paradoxically, after the 1994 reform and the improvement that they tried to give it in 1999, the number of district courts grew, the apparatus through the Federal Judiciary and the money is returned to a trust, not to the Treasury.

“While there are complaints in the more than 600 courts that they do not have stationery, equipment, computers, personnel, that they do not have notifiers, and they create a trust for about 22 billion pesos with budgetary savings,” said the also president of the Political Coordination Board.

Mier Velazco reiterated that it is excessive spending that, to a large extent, has to be redirected while respecting the autonomy of Power; “That is why I announced that we are going to put a magnifying glass on those between 15 and 25 billion pesos.”

On another issue, questioned about the fact that the National Electoral Institute (INE) projected a budget of 23 billion for 2024, the deputy recalled that in the last two years an adjustment was made in chapters 2000, 3000, 6000, as well as an adjustment to their trusts.

“I believe that now only the increase that they are allocating for next year’s electoral process should be reviewed, and that the General Council will be installed as of November. It is only necessary to review that which has to do to a large extent with the increase in the prerogatives of the political parties for almost 4 billion pesos (…) So that is not going to have major shocks. Minimal adjustments will be made, ”he explained.
