Dangerous driving in Colorado Express Lanes will be penalized with fines

DENVER, Colorado – Authorities in the state will be cracking down on drivers who drive unsafely in the Colorado Express Lanes along I-70.

Starting June 21, drivers will receive warnings for violationssuch as using the Express lanes when they are closed, crossing solid yellow lines, and driving in the lanes with an oversized vehicle.

However, one month after this date, that is, on July 21, the warnings will cease and fines will be imposed on violators, known as “civil assessment penalties.” Express lanes are designed to relieve congestion and should only be used in emergencies.

The fines will be applied using an advanced technological system that includes sensors and cameras to identify drivers who violate the rules of the express lanes.

The aim of these measures is to ensure safety on the roads and to send a clear message that dangerous behavior will not be tolerated. The fines will start from July 21.

The citation program for express lane violations will be extended to other corridors in Colorado in the future.
