Convicted in 1999 for the quadruple murder of members of his family, Dany Leprince, free since April 2021, published a book at the end of 2022 in which he reaffirms his innocence. Its publisher requested the provision of a municipal hall in Thorigné-sur-Dué, the town where the facts took place, in order to come and sign the book.

Dany Leprince wants to come and clear his name in the town where everything has changed. Almost 30 years after the quadruple murder of members of his family for which he was sentenced to life imprisonment before being finally released in April 2021, Dany Leprince wants to return to Thorigné-sur-Dué, in Sarthe. He indeed wishes to dedicate there the book he published in November 2022, They stole my lifein which he continues to assert his innocence.

Its publisher Flammarion asked the town hall of this village of 1700 inhabitants for permission to use a communal hall free of charge as part of the dedication. A request rejected by the municipality but which, according to the mayor Nathalie Chailloux, is not linked to any reluctance in the face of the return of Dany Leprince to the land of the drama.

Opposition to request for free

“The city council has issued an unfavorable opinion for a free provision. (…) I do not want everyone to call me to ask me for a free provision of the multipurpose room”, explains the aedile to France 3 Pays de la Loire.

In any case, nothing prohibits Dany Leprince from renting a room in the town or more generally from being present there. The former detainee had in the past been subject to a ban on appearing in the Sarthe, as part of a conditional release, but he has regained his total freedom since 2021.

These details come after the dissemination of erroneous information on social networks and by the media according to which the town hall of Thorigné-sur-Dué refused the arrival of Dany Leprince in the town as part of a signing session. The mayor denied this information on Wednesday to France 3 Pays de la Loire.

Dany Leprince then reacted by explaining to France Blue Maine that “Thorigné is hooked on the Leprince affair, but I have a fight to fight. I don’t worry about the consequences. I’m fighting a fight, period. 28 years ago, people thought that I was guilty, they don’t want to go back on their way of seeing things, it’s their choice”.

Already 9000 copies sold

The author is currently promoting his book in the region. The book has already sold 9,000 copies according to France Blue and the next autograph session will take place next Friday in La Ferté-Bernard, about thirty kilometers from Thorigné-sur-Dué. We do not know the date of a possible meeting of the same nature in the town where the murders were committed.

Dany Leprince, now 66, was sentenced in 1999 for the murder in 1995 of several members of his family: his brother, his wife and two of their daughters. The man had confessed to the murder of his brother while in police custody before retracting. He had justified his attitude by the pressure of the gendarmes to obtain a confession, saying he wanted to be “left alone”. He had also been accused by his wife at the time and his eldest daughter, in versions which contradicted each other.

Released on parole in 2012, before being imprisoned again for violating his house arrest in Lot-et-Garonne in 2016 (he actually lived 600 kilometers away, in Orne), in 2021, he obtained the opening of investigations as part of a request for a review of his trial.
