Sports Writing, April 21 (EFE) The day before the lightweight fight between the Americans Ryan ‘King’ García and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis received a great deal of tension this Friday with the unexpected intervention of the former world champion of that division Bernard Hopkins, 58 years old.

The man who reigned for ten years in the middleweight category and set a record twenty title defenses had a heated altercation with ‘Tank’ Davis, who in turn was suggesting going to blows with ‘King’ Garcia shortly after he both fighters will go through the scale.

Former champion Davis, 28, scored 135.1 pounds on the scale and then launched into a taunting of Garcia, four years younger, who left an official record of 135.5.

After the weigh-in for the 136-pound non-title fight, both rivals insulted their dislike for each other.

‘Tank’ Davis pushed ‘King Garcia’ and in the tug of war ‘B-Hop’ appeared with the apparent intention of preventing the matter from getting out of control.

“I don’t know what happened. He (Davis) and Bernard had a fight and then everything went crazy,” said ‘King’ Garcia, whom many specialists, including former champion Hopkins, consider the new face of boxing.

Davis, undefeated in 28 fights, said Hopkins tried to stop him from assaulting Garcia after the weigh-in.

“Nobody cares about that old ass anymore. Bernard has to sit back and let the youngsters do their thing,” Davis sneered.

At the fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ryan Garcia arrives with a record of 23 wins, 19 by knockout, in the same number of fights.

Gervonta Davis won 28, 26 early.

“I’m focused on doing my job. I’m ready to destroy it,” Garcia said.

Davis declared himself excited to be the protagonist of what is considered by many to be one of the fights of the year.

“It makes me feel excited to see so many fans. It motivates me to go out and put on a great show. My forecast is that I’m going to knock him out. It’s going to be crazy,” Davis said. EFE
