A 46-year-old father is actively wanted after injuring his two children and his former partner. He attacked them before setting fire to their home in Montreuil-sur-Barse near Troyes.
A 46-year-old man is actively sought by the Aube gendarmes, suspected of having attacked his two children and his ex-girlfriend with an ax at their home in Montreuil-sur-Barse, about thirty kilometers from Troyes in the ‘Dawn. A call for witnesses was launched by the authorities as part of this triple “attempted murder” and “destruction of property by fire”.
The facts took place in the night from Friday to Saturday in a context of difficult separation. According to the first elements of the investigation, the man entered the accommodation occupied by his former companion, from whom he has been separated for several months, and his two children, twins aged 11 years.
A call for witnesses launched
The suspect attacked his children, seriously injuring them with an axe. Their vital prognosis is however not engaged. Their mother was also injured, more lightly, while trying to defend her children. The man then fled by setting fire to the apartment.
The mother of the family was able to alert the emergency services and she and her two children were rescued. The father of the family is still actively sought on Monday. An investigation was opened on the counts of triple attempted murder and destruction of property by fire. The investigations are entrusted to the research brigade of Rosières-près-Troyes and to the research section of Reims.
About fifty gendarmes were mobilized and a call for witnesses was launched.
The couple had been separated for several months. Last August, the mother of the two children filed a complaint against this man for violence. An investigation was immediately carried out and the man was summoned last October as part of a criminal composition, a procedure which allows a prosecutor to propose a sanction in the event of so-called weak offences. Measures were then taken.
The acting out this weekend could also be explained by the fact that the man had just learned of a request filed by his ex-partner before a family court judge to set visitation rights and possibly the rights of accommodation granted to the father.
