Sigulda (VRV). After the “Miracle of Igls”, where the Austria lugers won all 8 competitions, there was now the “Terror of Sigulda”. The red-white-red team went down without a word at the World Cup race there.
The reasons for the poor performance are quickly found: half the team was suffering from the consequences of a flu epidemic and the resulting lack of fitness. Material problems and various injuries did their part. The toboggan run of the Sparkasse Bludenz toboggan club is also affected.
So could Yannick Mueller and Armin Frauscher do not start at all due to their defective sled, Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller had to struggle with the flu and a training injury, 12th place was the meager result. It got really bad Jonas Mueller, who fell heavily, especially in the second run, but fortunately remained uninjured, only the sports equipment broke completely. One can only hope that the otherwise strong Austrian lugers will find their way back to their old form at the European Championships, which will be held in Sigulda next weekend.
