As in 2008, the engineer Isaac Clarke and his companions are requisitioned to repair the USG Ishimura drilling vessel, which does not seem to have given any sign of life for some time. A starting point that soon turns into a nightmare, both on a personal level for the protagonist and for the future of all humanity. Alongside this trailer, Motive released a new blog post which looks back on the team’s storytelling philosophy.

In space no one will hear Isaac speak

As we know, this remake intends to respect the 2008 game in general terms, but Motive had the freedom to make a number of alterations to enrich the experience. On the narrative level, this means in particular that Isaac Clarke is no longer a voiceless puppet and will therefore give voice, as was the case in Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3. In addition to these two sequels and a few spin off, the universe of Dead Space was enriched with an animated film, books and a few comics before being shelved for many years. Certain changes and additions made in this remake therefore echo these creations, for the sake of consistency and continuity.

We also gave some secondary characters a little more screen time, a little more action power and personality. Some were really important, like Nicole and Mercer. But even characters like Jacob Temple and Elizabeth Cross, who were just audio messages from the original game, now have a part to play and some screen time.“, explains the creative director Roman Campos-Oriola. Giving thickness to the secondary characters will not be without consequences on the content of the game since new side quests have been added to deepen these intrigues and also to return to what is really arrived at USG Ishimura.
