The debut of the new work of EA Motive is almost upon us. While waiting for the few days that separate us from its release and following the announcement by EA Motive of the new game plus on Dead Space Remake, the development team has released some details that have characterized the creative phase of this project.
In detail, what has most captured the attention in the last few hours has been the recent declaration of the realization creator of EA Motive, Joel MacMillan, regarding an initial intention to remove the ability to pause the game altogether. It seems that the intentions behind this somewhat atypical choice were linked to the desire to create an experience that was more in line with the style of horror adventures.
“In horror games you can pause and you can have a safe moment. You can take a deep breath. I think you get a respite from that and it deflates the tension a bit. But with persistent online games you play with dozens of other people and you can’t pause everyone’s game. I think that removing this feature can make horror games much more impactful. One might really feel that one is never safe“.
These are the statements of MacMillan himself, arguing that the removal of this feature can make a big change in the macro-cosm of horrific experiences, even if the tastes of the realization creator have not been in any way sufficient to bring about a change of no small importance such as that of removing the pause in Dead Space Remake. Indeed, the entire team rejected MacMillan’s proposalcarrying forward a creative vision more in line with the wishes of the public.
This modification would certainly have changed the experience offered by Dead Space itself, following the innovations introduced in the game: for example, in Dead Space Remake the interface will be entirely in 2D and this will be only one of the many elements that will revisit the entire experience fine-tuned by Electronic Arts.
