The release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is fast approaching and Nintendo must prepare accordingly. Indeed, Breath of the Wild had the effect of a bomb, when it was released in 2017, whether you are a fan of the license or not. With the arrival of the brand new opus in the saga, Nintendo must work twice as hard so that everyone can play it.
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: as popular as its elder?
Since its release in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has sold more than 7 million copies in France. Around the globe, we reach 119 million units soldliterally the third best-selling console in video game history.

If you have a good memory, you will surely remember that Breath of the Wild was also available on Wii U, but that the sales of the game on this platform represent a very small proportion of the owners of the title (1.69 million on Wii U) . For once, Nintendo was able to ensure a good production of consoles, even during the shortages of components. Even the other major Japanese manufacturer, Sony, had some problems during the 2019-2022 period.
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is sold by Nintendo as the sequel to a first adventure, so this may sort out a bit among those who didn’t appreciate the first part. Pre-orders are already open at certain stores and there is no doubt that the first hour fans already have their Tears of the Kingdom in their list of games to do in 2023. Nintendo is doing very little “sequel” strictly speaking for their Zelda games. In the lot, we can remember Zelda Ocarina of Time released on Nintendo 64 in 1998 and its sequel in 1999, Majora’s Mask.

It will be the return of the new Zelda formula, which many players seem to enjoy.
Lots more Nintendo Switch ahead of Zelda release
Nintendo’s powerful marketing and word of mouth have been able to emulate and retain new players to the Japanese manufacturer. The Nintendo Switch is selling extremely well and Nintendo is praising their numbers every semester. According to the Bloomberg newspaper, Nintendo has already communicated to its suppliers a much larger number of consoles before the release of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, which will be released on May 12, 2023.
On a more modest scale, the Nintendo Switch has still suffered the vagaries of the Covid, but the Japanese firm is indeed counting on this new exclusive title to boost their sales even more. Tell yourself that next March, Nintendo’s hybrid console will blow out its sixth candle.
The classic version was soon accompanied by a cheaper Lite version, and an OLED version with more basic storage and a better calibrated screen for gamers. Bloomberg seems to confirm that the three models are likely to be mass produced by the deadline, in May 2023.
