A 31-year-old woman died on Saturday as she tried to climb, with other people, the western slope of the Grand Colon, which culminates at 2,400 meters. According to rescuers, the mountaineer slipped “on hard snow” on a steep slope.

A 31-year-old mountaineer died after falling several hundred meters in the Belledonne massif, east of Grenoble in Isère, rescuers explained to AFP on Sunday, confirming information from the Dauphine Libere.

This young woman, from the Grenoble conurbation and accompanied by a group of about ten members of the French Alpine Club, slid on Saturday afternoon “on hard snow” on a steep slope for about 300 to 400 meters, said a rescuer from the CRS Alpes de Grenoble.

The fall occurred from a stop on the western slope of the Grand Colon which culminates at 2,400 meters. Rescuers arrived at the scene by helicopter and pronounced him dead. The group accompanying the victim was helicoptered below “to bring him to safety”, it was added.
