Update (12/23/2022) – GS

During The Game Awards 2022, Hideo Kojima confirmed the development of Death Stranding 2sequel to the first game by Kojima Productions released in 2019.

As expected, the announcement of the sequel came with a lot of mystery and completely disconnected scenes, something that Kojima said he did on purpose so that fans could create theories, but this week, we had interesting news about the plot of the game.

In the first Death Stranding, we met a post-apocalyptic world, which, coincidentally, ended up bringing many similarities with the period of social isolation of the coronavirus pandemic. According to Kojima, the pandemic meant that he had to rewrite some of the ideas he had created for Death Stranding 2.

In an interview with IGN, the creative said that “you can’t pretend that something this big never happened”. Although the game is not intended to reflect real-world events, one cannot ignore the experience that players have gone through in recent years.

In addition, another factor that influenced the plot was the continued distance that some people had to adopt, even after the most critical period of the pandemic, in addition to also being against the mass remote work systems adopted by some companies.

Humans exist in a physical reality. When I went to America and finally got to hug people, that feeling was just so different.

Kojima’s speech refers to the need to distance ourselves during the pandemic. The creative reflects on how creating connections between people has allowed them to overcome the difficulties of the pandemic, just as the need for connection allows them to overcome the challenges in Death Stranding.

My concern is that the world becomes a place where entertainment comes from above. Even now, artificial intelligence recommends what it thinks we’re going to like, and I think we’re going to end up in a place where videos change depending on who’s watching.

The creative certainly brings powerful reflections to the game and this can yield another spectacular product.

Looking forward to the release of Death Stranding 2?
