Mexico City.- As expected, the Mexican Guillermo del Toro won the Best Animated Film award this Sunday, for his version of Pinocchio, at the 28th annual edition of the Critics Choice Awards, held in Los Angeles.

“Don’t run the damn music!” the filmmaker joked during his winning speech. “Animating is giving a soul to something that doesn’t have a soul, and I think that’s a great way to encapsulate Pinocchio. We made a new story that feels timeless and old, but we made it new.”

“We got turned down by every studio in Hollywood, we worked for 15 years, and I can tell you that animation is a great way to tell stories. Animation is a way to reach people. And I want to acknowledge that there has never been a better generation of animators. that now”.

With this triumph, the filmmaker from Guadalajara adds one more award to his collection, after standing out in the same category at the last Golden Globes. If he continues like this, his path to the Oscar seems assured.

In the animated category, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio beat out films like Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Red and Wendell & Wild.
