In Berlin, several dozen people demonstrated for the release of activist Jamshid Sharmahd, who was sentenced to death in Iran. According to the police, around 50 people gathered in front of the Chancellery on Wednesday afternoon. The German government had previously expelled two Iranian diplomats in response to the death sentence.

“I’m asking everyone to be loud for my dad today! Please be so loud and strong that the federal government finally does something to get my dad out of this hell,” tweeted Gazelle Sharmahd, the German-Iranian’s daughter, on Wednesday. The 67-year-old is held responsible for a terrorist attack in Iran, among other things.

The human rights activist Düzen Tekkal from the aid organization Háwar.help told the news agency at the demonstration: “It is very important for us that this death sentence is withdrawn. We demand that words are finally followed by deeds. The regime knows no other language. We demand maximum sanctions.” (dpa)
