The whole summer and autumn seem to disappear for those who want to take advantage of the warmer seasons to cycle on Stockholm’s city electric rental bikes. After an accident where a bicycle broke into two pieces the rental was paused for inspection of all bicycles. Two weeks later they are still standing still.
Dagens Industri writes that Citybikes has now asked the city to pause the service for six to nine months because the Italian bicycle supplier Vaimoo has not found a solution to the problem. Cityibike therefore wants to find a new bicycle manufacturer and hopes for a break in the agreement in the meantime.
Beset with problems
After a very difficult first year for Citybikes, which manages the rental via an agreement with the city of Stockholm, it is now worse than ever.
At first, the city had problems getting an agreement, so for four years there were no rental bikes under the city’s auspices. Then when the service was opened in the spring of 2022, there were too few bikes on site. There have also been battery fires, million whites, accidents and now a total shutdown.
