Mexico City.- Federal deputies from the PAN, PRI and Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) demanded to investigate the causes of today’s Metro accident that has left one dead and almost 60 injured, but they pointed to budget abandonment and carelessness on the part of the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum , for focusing more on her aspirations to be a candidate for the Presidency than on her work.

“Claudia Sheinbaum: stop your illegal campaign and solve the City’s problems,” the PAN legislators demanded in a statement.

Individually, PAN member Santiago Creel, president of the Chamber of Deputies, also demanded the investigation. “Of course, the demand is an immediate and urgent investigation,” he said on his Twitter account.

The legislators of Movimiento Ciudadano considered that the clash, which occurred between the Potrero and La Raza stations of Line 3 that crosses Mexico City from North to South, is a consequence of negligence and systematic omission of the Metro service.

“We hope that the corresponding authorities carry out an exhaustive and prompt investigation to find the causes and assign responsibilities to those who make the decisions that have led the city’s public transport to these conditions,” the bench said.

“This is not just another accident. According to data from México Evalúa (a civil organization specialized in public policies), the federal government reduced federal transfers to the Metro. From granting it an average of 182 million pesos per year from 2016 to 2019, it only contributed 20 million in 2020 and in 2021 it completely withdrew its financial support,” the MC deputies assured.

The PRI legislators in San Lázaro considered that the continuous accidents and failures of the Metro are a sign of the incapacity of the capital’s government, whose head, Claudia Sheinbaum, was out of the city because she would promote the alleged successful policies of her Administration in Michoacán.

“We demand a thorough investigation into today’s incident and, where appropriate, establish responsibilities,” the PRI said.

“We demand training for the drivers, continuous maintenance of the trains and tracks, verification of the technology and supervision of the communication of the central control command,” they added.

All the deputies regretted the accident and expressed their solidarity with the victims, but insisted on the investigation and that the main means of transportation in Mexico City be attended to.

The coordinator of the Morena deputies, Ignacio Mier, also published his regret for what he called an incident.

“The Metro incident is being dealt with by the Mexico City authorities. My solidarity with the citizens and victims of this unfortunate event. Now the priority is to support the people,” he said on Twitter.
