DeSantis announces free admission to Florida state parks for Memorial Day

MIAMI.- Admission to Florida state parks will be free during Memorial Day weekend, Governor Ron DeSantis said at a news conference in Naples.

“I am proud to be able to announce to Florida residents that during the four days of Memorial Day weekend they can attend state parks for free,” he said.

“It’s important that people have the ability to get out and enjoy our fantastic natural environment,” DeSantis said, adding that we share the values of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, who said that appreciating our natural resources and Outdoor recreation is crucial to producing good citizens.

Memorial Day weekend in 2024 runs from Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27.

The governor highlighted during the press conference that last year, between the months of July and September, Florida received a record 35.1 million visitors.

“Part of the reason I think people come to Florida is because we have the best beaches, the best fishing and the best state parks in the entire country,” he added.

According to the president, Florida state parks received more than 29 million visitors in 2023, generating about 3.6 billion dollars to the economy.

He also mentioned that during his governorship he had allocated more than $444 million in funding to state parks.

Florida has 175 state parks covering nearly 800,000 acres and 100 miles of beaches.
