The Conservative politician signed law today giving an oversight body sweeping powers over Disney World’s theme park expansion plans. DeSantis’ new tourism board can now cancel agreements on construction plans that a predecessor board controlled by Disney made with the company.
The background is a feud that has been fought for months between DeSantis and Disney over teaching in schools in the US state of Florida. The group had criticized a new law that restricts the treatment of issues of sexuality and gender identity. In doing so, Disney drew the wrath of Republican DeSantis, who is considered a potential rival of ex-President Donald Trump for the nomination for the 2024 presidential election. Complaints and counterclaims have already been filed in the dispute.
