Although the NFT market is not in top form, the collection of Cryptopunks continues to set sales records. Yesterday, one of the rarest NFTs in the collection sold for a fortune.
CryptoPunk 2066 sold for more than a million euros
While the NFT market is currently going through a complicated period, the Cryptopunks collection does not seem to know the crisis.
This Saturday, December 31, a very rare NFT from the CryptoPunks collection sold for 1155 ETH to a certain nobody_vault, an anonymous collector from the Opensea exchange platform. This exceptional transaction represents at current prices, the “modest” sum of 1.2 million euros…
As a reminder, the floor price for a cryptopunk is currently 64 ether, which is around €71,000. The mysterious buyer therefore paid nearly 18 times the price to obtain his famous NFT Cryptopunk.
Unsurprisingly, this one has an extremely rare feature. The coveted CryptoPunk #2066 is part of the NFT collection with the “Zombie” attribute. Highly sought after by collectors, these NFTs exist in number 88 of the 10,000 Cryptopunk NFTs.
This new transaction is therefore included in the table of sales records for NFT “Zombie” Cryptopunks, alongside:
- CryptoPunk #8857, sold for 2000 ETH
- CryptoPunk #7252, sold for 1600 ETH
- CryptoPunk #6275, sold for 1,319 ETH
Why Cryptopunks Keep Breaking Sales Records
First of all, it is important to remember that the collection is the pioneer of the NFT sector. Digital punk characters developed by Larva Labs in 2017 launched the phenomenon of NFT avatars on Ethereum. The 10,000 Cryptopunks each having such unique traits were quickly adopted by celebrities, which greatly contributed to their popularity and increased value.
Prized by collectors, Cryptopunks are now considered true virtual works unlike other collections. Indeed, if many collections promise advantages and privileges to the owners of their NFTs, Cryptopunks have nothing other than their pixels to offer.
As a result, while several collections are struggling to sell during this period, the collection bought by YugaLabs is still gaining followers.
