Despite the crisis and inflation, the number of companies in western Brandenburg increased slightly in 2022. This is the result of statistics from the Potsdam Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), which is responsible for the region west of Berlin.

“We are cautiously optimistic that the regional economy has apparently been more resilient than many had predicted,” said Chamber President Ina Hänsel. “Now we must join forces to ensure that bureaucracy is reduced and an affordable energy supply is secured so that a recession is not as severe as feared.”

Service sector most represented

On December 31, 2022, the IHK had 83,535 member companies in the area district. The number of companies entered in the commercial register rose by 1.5 percent, while small businesses fell by 0.4 percent.

With almost 55 percent, the services sector is still by far the strongest, followed by trade with 18.2 percent and industry with 7.3 percent.
