The Xbox dashboard has been part of the Redmond company’s largest gaming construction site for several generations of consoles. After a short development stop, Microsoft is now announcing another update for the “New Home Experience”, which is intended to improve the main menu.

After completing several months of testing and evaluating insider feedback, Microsoft decided to pause work on the new Xbox dashboard and revert to the old main menu design. After this backwards roll, experts assumed that the developers would go back to the drawing board to work on a completely new design. However, the Experience team did not plan much time to think about it.
Preview of the new main menu for Xbox consoles

Less than three weeks later, Microsoft is now presenting its new ideas for the main menu of the game consoles to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S insiders in the so-called Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings. According to the developers, the top edge of the home screen was primarily criticized by insiders because previous adjustments prevented them from “enjoying the background.” An update is now available with the focus on an optimized display of the wallpaper.

Key points of the new Xbox dashboard:

“The new version of Home…”

  • …offers easy navigation to your Library, Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass, Search, and Settings at the top of your Home page by introducing a new quick access menu.
  • …simplifies the layout and creates more space for you to see your background by shrinking some tiles and moving them to the bottom of the screen.
  • …adds a responsive game graphics feature to update the default background and show the beautiful graphics associated with each title when you hover over the tiles.

The tile for “My games and apps” has also been revised, which is located at the top of row two of the new Xbox dashboard. In the future, this should provide targeted information “if there is something new that requires your attention.” Among other things, updates from your own game library and wish list offers from the Microsoft Store are currently displayed here. However, the work is not yet complete, which is why the range of functions should be expanded in the near future.

It is not yet clear if and when the updated main menu will land on the Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One from the average consumer. Insider feedback over the next few days and weeks will be decisive. It is unlikely that the new Xbox dashboard will be introduced as part of the upcoming May 2023 update.
