The tasks also include the search for a Bierhoff successor. So far, Fredi Bobic has been considered the most promising aspirant for the DFB post, but ‘Bild’ now also brings Rudi Völler into play as a candidate.

What does Voller say?

Völler was sporting director and managing director of Bayer Leverkusen for many years, but left in the summer and has since been active in a retired role as part of the club’s shareholders’ committee.

The former national coach does not seem to have any great ambitions to join the DFB: “Basically, my life plan looks different.” However, a clear rejection sounds different. A decision could be made in the coming week: the DFB task force will meet again on January 19 to talk about Bierhoff’s successor.
