The year 2023 promises to be great for video game fans. In the first half alone, the big releases will pile up.

The year is also ending for the video game market. 2022 was marked by the release ofElden Ring, among other successes (and, of course, a few flops). As the calendar closes, it’s time to take your binoculars and look at a more or less distant horizon.

2023 promises to be particularly rich for video game fans. In the first half alone, the big outings will follow one another and we will barely have time to breathe. Here are our biggest expectations for the coming months.

As always, we’ve only listed video games with a known release date — those that are less likely to be pushed back. Other major productions — Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at Sony, Starfield at Microsoft — are obviously in our sights as well.

The most anticipated video games of 2023

Dead Space Remake (PS5, Xbox Series & PC)

dead space is one of the best horror games in history. But, we are talking about a title released in 2008, which is starting to show its age despite its immense qualities. If the saga fell into oblivion after a disappointing third opus, Electronic Arts has decided to relaunch the license with a remake of the first opus. Hero who speaks, redesigned levels, production in sequence shot, updated graphics of course: the Motive studio is putting the dishes in the big ones. We played it, and we can’t wait to dive back into the horror.

Release date: January 27

Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One & PC)

Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy is a huge fantasy. This is the most ambitious adaptation of the Harry Potter universe in video game format. We are promised an ultra-complete epic, where we will play a student at Hogwarts school linked to a dark secret. There’s open-world RPG-style gameplay, with tons of things to do and discover – including places that will feel familiar to fans. Warner Bros. play big with Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy and you say to yourself that it will be ecstasy or the door.

Release date: February 10

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One & PC)

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is the future game from Team Ninja, one of the rare studios to have successfully experimented with the genre popularized by the Dark Souls trilogy. We can therefore expect a sufficiently solid foundation, in the service of an experience carried by its requirement and its difficult to master fights. The universe of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be based on a re-reading of the Three Kingdoms with a dark fantasy twist.

Release date: March 3

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (PS5, Xbox Series & PC)

Has anyone played a better Star Wars video game than Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order these last years ? No, by far. This spectacular action/adventure game caused a stir when it launched in 2019, and the sequel is expected to fix its few flaws. Cal Kestis, Jedi pursued by the Empire, should experience a good evolution. As a bonus, Electronic Arts had the good idea to quickly formalize the release date, a real proof of confidence for this Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Release date: March 17

Resident Evil 4 Remake (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series & PC)

dead space won’t be the only cult horror game to get a remake in 2023. After Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3Capcom goes through re-readings and logically tackles Resident Evil 4. In our eyes, this is the best episode of the flagship saga. Therefore, we cannot imagine the Japanese firm doing anything with one of the most beautiful jewels in its catalog. One thing is certain: there will be plenty of opportunities to be afraid during the first trimester.

Release date: March 24

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is neither more nor less than the continuation of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – considered in our columns, and by many, as the game of the last decade. Six years later, Link is about to push the Nintendo Switch to its limits. It is, moreover, our only fear: is the console powerful enough to provide an even grander adventure to the hero? Fingers are crossed.

Release date: May 12

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (PS5, Xbox Series & PC)

Behind Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, we find the Rocksteady studio, which shone with the Batman: Arkham trilogy. For him, the rest of the journey happens on the side of the bad guys: the Suicide Squad, which has known the best and the worst in the cinema, should guarantee us great moments of video game. The cast is notably composed of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark. Of course, they will have to do battle with Batman.

Release date: May 26

Diablo IV (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One & PC)

Diablo III was released in 2012. So, ten years ago. It’s an understatement to say that the wait has been long enough for fans of Blizzard Entertainment’s hack’n’slash. Especially since the mobile adaptation, called Diablo Immortal, is far from having won the votes. For this fourth opus, the American company will return to a much darker atmosphere – closer to Diablo II. This is already an excellent starting point.

Release date: June 6

Final Fantasy XVI (PS5)

Why believe in Final Fantasy XVI, while the Square Enix saga has been blowing hot and cold in recent years? Simply because it’s directed by Naoki Yoshida, the man who transformed the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV into a real goose that lays the golden eggs for Square Enix. Confidence is total, and the first trailers are all more incredible than the other. In short, we really want to believe it.
