DTS stands for Digital Theater Systems and is a multi-channel sound system that allows bit rates of up to 1.5 Mbps, which is significantly higher than Dolby Digital. Accordingly, DTS is also said to have a better sound, which is determined by many factors.
A disadvantage, however, is that DTS consumes a higher bandwidth when streaming. However, this should no longer be a problem in most households.
IMAX Enhanced with DTS audio
Disney+ will now release DTS’ IMAX Signature Sound for the first films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To hear DTS sound, however, compatible devices are required. According to Disney, at launch, some IMAX Enhanced certified TVs from manufacturers like Sony and Hisense will support DTS audio on Disney+. This also applies to a range of AV receivers from manufacturers such as Denon, Marantz and JBL. Disney+ has been offering the IMAX Enhanced film format for a number of cinema films since November 2021. These include, for example, “Iron Man”, “Guardians of the Galaxy” or “Doctor Strange”. Now, with the addition of DTS audio, it aims to better reproduce the IMAX experience in the home in general. However, Disney has not yet announced an exact date for the start of DTS-Audio. There are rumors that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could launch next month. The movie is powered by IMAX Enhanced.
