MIAMI.- Miami-Dade announced a new day of the Operation Green Light or ‘Green Light’ program, which will allow drivers’ licenses to be restored free of charge to residents who have this document suspended.
According to the secretary of the courts and comptroller of Miami-Dade, Juan Fernández-Barquín, the collection fees for the reactivation of the license will be temporarily eliminated from Wednesday, April 11 to April 30.
“We want to help residents solve that problem. This initiative reduces the burden on our residents who want to do the right thing by paying their judicial obligations,” commented the head of the county courts.
Those residents who do not have enough money to pay the fines owed will be able to negotiate a payment plan, if necessary, according to Fernández-Barquín.
A driver’s license may be suspended for traffic fines not paid on time, failure to keep appointments for traffic violations, or due to the accumulation of points on that identification document.
The Operation Green Light initiative also had a day to restore licenses and reduce traffic fines by 30% in September of last year.
About 600,000 people in Miami-Dade drive with their licenses suspended. The program will help many of them legalize their permits and avoid being considered violators of the law.
