The use of whey protein is a mass-gaining aid used by many gym-goers. Although it is possible to gain lean mass without having to take the supplement, isolated protein helps a lot of people, but it also raises suspicions due to its supposed risks.

It circulates, for example, the suspicion that the supplement made of proteins isolated from whey would be harmful to the functioning of the kidneys. “A healthy person will not have kidney damage from taking whey. It is not he, in an isolated way, that reaches the renal system. However, excess protein can, over time, overload the organ and cause a problem”, says sports nutritionist Henrique Spessotto.

According to him, what damages the renal system is the excess of proteins in the diet, since nutrients should not represent more than 35% of the daily intake of calories for an adult.
