Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the new movie set in the Dragon Ball universe. Broadcast for the first time last June in Japan, the feature film was finally screened only in October with us. Now that the whole world has had the opportunity to watch it, the various derivative products that revolve around Dragon Ball are reappropriating the elements of the film to offer various variations.

While Dragon Ball Legends, the other free-to-play on iOS and Android taken from Akira Toriyama’s universe, welcomed the new transformations some time ago, it’s Dokkan Battle’s turn to do the same. Thus, we were treated to a live from the producers and developers of the game to talk about the arrival of these characters. So, was the wait worth it?

When will Gohan Beast and Orange Piccolo be available in Dokkan Battle?

For now, we know that Gohan Beast and Orange Piccolo portals are set to arrive on Wednesday, December 28 in Dokkan Battle, at least in the Japanese version. Normally, it should land at the same time in the global version, that is to say the version accessible in France. All that remains is to wait for the release time now.

Gohan Beast, ultimately disappointing?

To begin the analysis of this new character, let’s emphasize that it is not Gohan Beast, but Son Gohan Ultimate. Able to be awakened to the rank of LR, the highest rarity rank in the game, it is an Endurance type. Beyond the beautiful artwork, the first element that strikes on this card is its relatively low defense but which is compensated by a particularly high attack which makes it really interesting. If placed as a team leader, this Gohan Ultimate gives his partners a +170% boost for characters in the “DB Hero” or “Half-Blood Saiyan” category, with even an additional +30% boost for the “Parental link” and “Film heroes” categories. In addition, thanks to his passive ability, he can also increase his attack and defense by 100% if there is a character of the “Parental Bond” category on the team, which also activates his guard for three turns. Unfortunately, this only lasts for the beginning of the fight, which is not very practical for confrontations that drag on the duration. But even though, he can also rely on him having a chance to negate Kikoha-type special attacks against him, i.e. energy attacks and not physical ones. Thus, to compensate for his lack of defense, he must above all be paired with another hero from the films who acts as tanks, such as Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 or just in case… the Orange Piccolo which is available at the same time as him.

While this new Gohan looks enticing, many Dokkan players have expressed their disappointment with his transformation. In effect, Gohan’s transformation into a Beast is only an active skill, i.e. he only transforms for the time to do a Makankosappo and does not keep his beast form for the rest of the fight. In addition, this ability is only available after three rounds if the fighters next to him are of the “Super DB Hero” category or from the sixth round when facing an enemy alone. While the animation of the attack is impressive and faithfully reproduces what we see in the film, it is nonetheless disappointing according to many players on social networks who have complained about it. Despite that, we are in front of a character with a really imposing attack which makes him interesting, but who is penalized by his really weak defense.

Orange Piccolo, a solid tank?

If the new Gohan favors strength over defense, it’s the complete opposite of Orange Piccolo with him. Let’s say it right away, it is very clearly a tank, that is to say a unit that will take the damage instead of the others. This can be seen immediately when we take a look at his special attack which greatly increases his defense. With each attack received, he increases his attack and his defense, but also gives +2 ki to his allies during this turn. As a reminder, the ki are the orbs that you select to launch an attack and when you activate a certain number of them, you trigger a special attack. Finally, the other interesting element is that if Piccolo has suffered seven attacks during the fight and his life points (HP) are less than 30%, then he recovers 100% of his HP and reduces the damage he receives. ‘he suffers 30% from there.

In addition to this really effective basic kit, Orange Piccolo takes full interest when using his active skill. The latter is accessible from the third turn if all the allies during the turn are of the “Super DB Hero” category or from the sixth turn if there is only one enemy in front. From then on, he takes on his giant form which drastically increases his attack to reach 60,000. In this form, Piccolo no longer takes damage and becomes the only playable character by replacing the other allies for a few turns. Additionally, it allows him to gain +2 ki for each orb obtained, which is something he really needs. Because despite all these qualities as a tank, Orange Piccolo’s main flaw…well, it’s that it’s about Piccolo and there aren’t many interesting characters who share ties with him. As a reminder, links are passive bonuses that are activated when two units that share one are put side by side during a fight. This observation of the links also applies to Gohan Beast at the same time, which ultimately makes the two characters quite complicated to play to properly exploit their full potential.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero featured in Dokkan!

Beyond the arrival of these two highly anticipated new characters, Dokkan Battle is also updating to include content related to the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie.. First of all, the title will welcome other less important characters that we see in the feature film, such as an Intelligence-type Pan (small) or a duo of Trunks (young) & Son Goten (young) Power type. Then, the challenge against Cell Max, awakening of horror, will welcome new stages for those who are able to take it up given its difficulty. Same thing for the challenge “The Neverending Story of Dragon Ball” which will be entitled to new levels in which we will surely face Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. Moreover, we will also find them in the Red Zone dedicated to the Army Saga of the Red Ribbon.

A story event related to Super Hero will also be added to allow Dokkan Awakening (i.e. improving the character so that it reaches its full potential) of the Son Gohan (young) that we gets free in that same event. Finally, we will obviously be entitled to new Dokkan events for the two new characters who allow you to collect awakening medals so that they reach their LR stage. The other little novelty that may seem anecdotal but is not for players with veteran eyes, is that Dokkan Battle will welcome new animations for summons related to Super Herowhich is appreciable.

Other information not to be missed

To end this overview of new features in Dokkan Battle, note that two characters from the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly will be entitled to supreme Battle Z to reach their level 140. These are the Agility-type Super Saiyan Gogeta able to transform into Super Saiyan Blue and the Endurance-type Super Saiyan Broly able to transform into Super Saiyan (Full Power).
