A new criminal front opens for Donald Trump. The former president of the United States announced this Thursday that he will be charged for the investigation related to the retention of hundreds of classified documents that he took from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, his residence and private club on the Florida coast.

“The corrupt Biden Administration He has informed my lawyers that I have been charged, apparently, with the deceit of the boxes,” he said, referring to the boxes of documents that the prosecutor’s investigators confiscated in his mansion last summer.

Trump has made the announcement on his own social network account, Truth Social, where he has also accused his successor, Joe Biden, of having withheld more documents than him and where he has declared: “I am an innocent man”.

“I never believed that this could happen to a former president of the United States,” Trump added, in a statement similar to when he was indicted earlier this year. On that occasion he was paying to silence an extramarital affair with a porn actress, Stormy Daniels, in the days before the 2016 presidential election, which brought him to the White House.

Trump has detailed that he will have to appear in a federal courthouse in Miami next Tuesday at three in the afternoon (nine at night in Spain).

The former president is the subject of an investigation led by a special prosecutor, Jack Smith, assigned to the case by US Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The investigation began last year after Trump resisted requests from the National Archives, which is tasked with collecting all records of presidential activity, to return documents and materials believed to be in Mar-a- Lake. After negotiations and handover of material with the prosecution, the FBI ended up conducting a search at the Florida residence at the beginning of August, where 103 documents were confiscated, despite the fact that Trump’s team assured that they had delivered all the materials.

Since then, investigators have also collected evidence about Trump’s efforts to obstruct the recovery of classified documents. Authorities obtained witness testimony and recordings from Mar-a-Lago surveillance cameras that could indicate that Trump or his aides tried to prevent the handover of documents.
