London.- Anti-monarchist protesters threw slogans at the passage of the carriage in which King Charles III was transported, in London, during the coronation ceremony of the British sovereign.

“Not my King”, “abolish the monarchy” were messages that could be read on the banners of hundreds of republican protesters who gathered in Trafalgar Square.

“I stand for democracy and I think people should be able to choose whether or not they want a monarch as head of state,” said Ana Edwards, a 33-year-old Londoner.

“I am not particularly anti-monarchist, but I am in favor of the election,” she said as hundreds of protesters arrived in a festive atmosphere.

In the midst of this protest, Graham Smith, the leader of the Republic group that called the demonstration, was arrested.

The Police detained “six of our organizers and confiscated hundreds of banners” with the slogan “He is not my King,” a spokesman for the group confirmed minutes later.

“Free Graham Smith!” protesters began chanting as they watched the crowd from a raised platform, equipped with binoculars and cameras.

The coexistence was cordial between the demonstrators and the rest of the crowd, until when the royal procession approached, the supporters of the monarchy booed those who shouted “he is not my King!”, and “down with the crown!”.

And they began to sing the national anthem, “God Save The King”, while waving British flags.
