Someone had the twisted idea of using Artificial Intelligence to visualize Dragon Ball Z as an American sitcom from the 90s starring real actors.

The result, as we can imagine, is absolutely disturbing and aberrational. Both for the factor of the aesthetic values of the final product and for the sensation produced by seeing everything assembled in a video where anime now seems to be a direct relative of classics such as Step by Step, Full House or Family Ties.

We have seen in the past how fans of this franchise started by the master Akira Toriyama used these AI platforms to create conceptual pieces of art that were simply inconceivable before.

We saw a few weeks ago how the Floating Point Art Gallery made a series of requests to the powerful artificial intelligence of midjourney to capture what a Dragon Ball Z movie that would adapt Cell’s arc would look like.

Now, someone has had the idea to use the exact same platform to recreate the anime as if it were a situation comedy produced in the United States 3 decades ago and the result is perhaps even more disturbing.

Video: Dragon Ball Z becomes a 90s sitcom with this Artificial Intelligence

From the crooked corners of 9Gag A series of images edited into a video began to make noise, where we see the entire cast of Dragon Ball Z as people of flesh and blood in a TV series in the style of the late twentieth century.

Tracing the origins of this audiovisual piece we have found the YouTube channel Dan Taveras Music, where apparently the original video was shared on January 20 of this same year 2023:

In the description of the intro of the supposed series, it is stated that Midjourney’s Artificial Intelligence was used as the basis for generating the portraits of the characters.

Goku, Vegeta, Yamcha, Milk, Bulma, Trunks, Piccolo, Krillin, Master Roshi, Gohan, Raditz, Nappa, Ten Shin Han, Androids 17 and 18, Mr. Satan and even Frieza, they’re all here.

The style of each image is consistent with what was generated in the past by this AI, although here the production style of each photo is much more retro than in other cases.

Little by little it seems that Midjourney is becoming the reference platform for turning anime characters into real subjects.
