2017 appeared with DragonQuest 11 the last main part of the traditional JRPG series. Since then fans have been waiting for the single player implementation of the tenth part and also for the new twelfth part. To bridge there is a developer tose now another spin off to the row. Developer Tose is giving us Treasures for the Nintendo Switch this time. And even if there are some parallels to the Monsters offshoots, the treasure hunt adventure has some peculiarities. Who are they and how are we Dragon Quest Treasures judge, you will find out in our test.

Anyone who has played the eleventh part of the series will certainly recognize the main characters. Treasures takes place several years before the events of Dragon Quest 11 and revolves around the childhood adventures of Eric and his sister Mida. In the beginning, the two live aboard a Viking ship. A celebration of the last successful looting is in full swing. But the siblings dream of their own treasures, which they want to get hold of themselves in the future! So it is a good thing that the Vikings caught two strange creatures during the last raid.

Known and new faces

Erik and Mida sneak away and free Porcus, the winged pig, and Purrula, the winged cat. Together they escape from the ship and find two mysterious daggers on an island, which open a magical portal that draws the group to another world: Draconia. This consists of floating islands high in the clouds, resembling giant dragons, and said to harbor vast amounts of treasure.

So the goal is clear: Erik and Mida want to bag all the riches with their newfound friends and make a name for themselves as treasure hunters. Relatively quickly we find a place for our base. Between the islands there is a network of railway stations equipped with flying trains. The main station is our retreat point. From there we explore the five other cloud islands and unlock new train stations for fast travel. We can switch freely between Erik and Mida, but since they have little chance against the big monsters as weak children, they first have to make friends with other beasts who then support them in the fight.

We always have up to three monster partners who follow us, automatically attacking opponents and using abilities. If we defeat other monsters, we have a chance to recruit them as new members in our base. If we have the necessary materials, they are freely available to us for our main team or for errands.
