Royston Drenthe was one of those youngsters who was able to achieve his dream of becoming a footballer.. Raised in the Feyenoord youth academy, he dazzled at the 2007 Under-21 Euro Cup and Real Madrid decided to shell out 10 million euros for him, but for one reason or another he did not meet expectations and continued his career in less prestigious clubs such as Alania Vladikavkaz, Kayseri Erciyesspor, Baniyas, Kozakken Boys and Rácing Murcia. The Dutchman, however, had other equally high goals in his head and one was to become an actor: “I always told my mother that one day I wanted to be an actor. That was something I took very seriously. Apart from football, it was another my dreams”, revealed months ago for Ladbrokes Fanzone.
The footballer already tried his luck by appearing at a casting for Mocro Maffia very successfully and this is how Drenthe himself remembered it: “Of course I was nervous. It was the first time that tried something like this. For three weeks I studied and studied the lines until I could remember them backwards. And when my audition day came, the casting team couldn’t believe it was my first time acting. They were so surprised that he hadn’t done anything like this before… They told me they would let me know whether or not I got the job in a couple of weeks and three days later I heard back from them and they said I was successful.”
Thus, as was the case in his debut at the Bernabéu with his spectacular goal against Sevilla, Royston set expectations through the roof and immediately sought out high-level goals. Drenthe, with a laugh, set his eyes on the role of James Bond and applied as Daniel Craig’s replacement: “I know that Daniel Craig has given up the role of 007… Is that the next job for me? I think I should improve my English a bit…”, he expressed.

But what seemed like a joke, there is someone who has wanted to turn it into reality. Several well-known bookmakers have decided to include the name of Royston Drenthe among the candidates to play the mythical spy with more than twenty films in Hollywood. That the ex-madridista interprets 007 can lead the bettor to pocket 500 euros for each player or even 1,000, depending on the house chosen. Close by are names that would be more logical such as Jude Law, Benedict Cumberbatch or Mahershala Ali.
However, they are all a long way from the big favorites, which include actors like Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, James Norton, Rege-Jean Page and Damson Idris.
