A man allegedly riding in a stolen car has died after crashing while trying to flee from police in Miami Springs.
It happened this Saturday during the early hours of the morning, minutes after the theft of the vehicle was reported.
Miami Springs Police Department officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver fled and ended up losing control near Northwest 66th Avenue where he collided with a utility pole.
“I was coming about 80 miles, he hit me on the side and my car overturned,” said Virgilio Alonso, who was involved in the accident.
Police said the suspect died on scene from the impact, while the passenger had to be transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s trauma unit, but not before being handcuffed.
The occupants of the other two cars that were involved were unharmed.
The Miami-Dade Police Department has assumed the investigation of the case.
