Water restrictions are increasing in the country, earlier and earlier in the year. Since the end of March, certain sectors in the south-east of the country have been placed in drought crisis. This year, the drought is expected to be even worse than in 2022.

Dried up rivers, completely dry. The images are worthy of a most arid summer. It is an unprecedented drought at this time, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, where the maximum alert level is announced from May 10. Consequence: drastic restrictions, which could affect the entire population, including farmers, worried. “It’s a bit of a blow for us. (…) We don’t know where we’re going”loose a farmer.

A much drier summer

Restrictions also dreaded in other sectors, such as in a campsite which is already trying to save a resource that has become scarce, after a historically dry winter. We must anticipate, because the meteorological services predict a much drier summer, in areas so far spared. Even further north in the Loiret, it has not rained enough to recharge groundwater and waterways. Less accustomed by delimitation in their use of water, in Ouzouer-sur-Trézée (Loiret), farmers are also the first affected by the restrictions, even if it rained this week. Precipitation is announced in France this weekend, but it should not be enough to compensate for the winter drought.
