Several Internet users have received a message by SMS telling them that their package could not be recovered due to a weight error. This is a new scam.

It has almost become a routine in the middle of scams: the one concerning Chronopost parcels. Parcels having “encountered an error during delivery”, address confirmation necessary or need to “regularize the delivery information”: messages hiding scams are recurrent today.

This time, the problem would concern the weight of the false package. Several Internet users have shared SMS screenshots with the same type of message each time.

“Chronopost: Your package has been put on hold because it does not respect the indicated weight, Go quickly to…”

Sites close to reality

A link to a fraudulent site accompanies each SMS. And the scam could almost work since the site in question looks exactly like the official website of the delivery company. With one exception: each time you want to click on one of the site’s tabs, a “404 error” page appears, indicating that the page does not exist.

Note that several fake sites have been created especially for this scam, such as “chronopost-routings.com” or “chronopost-transport.fr”. However, the objective is the same each time: to recover your personal details in order to be able to hack them.

Chronopost calls back on his website that the company’s official text messages are sent by the number 38004, and not by a number beginning with 06 or 07. The service also indicates that the parcel number or the sender’s name is always noted in the body of message. For any suspicion of questionable message, Chronopost invites Internet users to send the scam to [email protected].
