Marketing for Dune: Part Two is slowly but surely rolling. Plenty of chic images from the sci-fi flick were released last week (we reported), but now it’s finally getting down to business: Warner Bros. has released a first trailer for Dune 2! The video bite should make you want the sequel, which we’ve known for a long time is sure to come – after all, director Denis Villeneuve announced years ago that he wants to film the first Dune novel in two parts. And that’s how we know roughly how Dune: Part Two will tie in with the first part: After defeating Jamis, Paul and his mother Jessica were taken in by Stilgar’s Fremen tribe, and together they set off towards Sietch Tabr. That’s how the first movie ended. There is a major time jump here in the book and we strongly suspect the film will follow the same pattern. But it is already certain that the second Dune flick should be much more action-packed, as Villeneuve described it last as an epic war film. In addition, the relationship between Paul (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya) should now take center stage. Chani’s role will therefore be greatly expanded for the second film, after the young Fremin was mainly seen in dream sequences in the last part. You can watch the trailer for Dune: Part Two here.

In the trailer we also see some of the exciting newcomers in action for the first time. Austin Butler (Elvis) has joined the cast to play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the villain’s favorite cunning grandson. (Sting played the part in the 1984 David Lynch film adaptation.) Also new: Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh (Midsommar), daughter of the Padisha Emperor Shaddam IV, who was played in Dune: Part Two by none other than Christopher Walken is impersonated. With Irulan and Shadamm IV, we hope to see a lot more of House Corrino, who only had one ambassador in the first film.

The official poster has now also been published.

The addition of Lady Margot Fenring, who was completely missing in the first Lynch film, is also interesting. She will be played by Léa Seydoux (James Bond: Spectre) and her husband, Count Fenring, is yet to be cast, although Tim Blake Nelson (who was cast in the film according to IMDB) is likely cast in the role .

Dune: Part Two is slated to hit theaters on November 3, 2023. After the second film, Villeneuve would also like to do a third Dune flick if possible, which would most likely be based on the second Dune novel and continue the story of Paul aka Muad’Dib. Also, a Dune series called The Sisterhood is still in the works, but the production seems to be suffering from some difficulties. It was only recently announced that the series has lost two key actors.
