There was an earthquake catastrophe in Syria and Turkey, which probably didn’t go unnoticed by any reader. In Germany, many people show solidarity with the victims, which is expressed in the form of a willingness to donate. Unfortunately, there are also people with no conscience who take advantage of this situation by launching fake fundraisers to put money in their own pockets.

So warn the colleagues from Watchlist Internet from such scams, which are also promoted on social media platforms like Twitter. E-mails are also making the rounds in which donations are also called for, often in the supposed name of well-known humanitarian organizations, while the only intention is to illegally make a profit. Fake websites are also well placed there.

Above you see an example of such a fraudulent call for donations. Overall, the criminals are flexible because they also invent their own aid organizations, which of course do not actually exist. The company also proves to be versatile when it comes to accepting “donations” and offers crypto wallets, PayPal and more. Social networks like Twitter try to draw attention to the fake calls for donations, with the scammers separating their calls under popular posts. In this way you hope to reach a particularly large number of readers.

Some of the fraudulent websites to be avoided include:

  • donateturkey.world
  • earthquaketurkey.world
  • help-turkey.org
  • helpturkey.world
  • helpturkeyandsyria.life
  • turkeydonate.world
  • turkey-fund.com
  • turkeyhelp.world
  • turkeystrong.org
  • wladimirfoundation.co

However, the colleagues from Watchlist Internet speak of more than 50 newly registered domains, which they were able to quickly track down during their research and start the fake calls for donations. However, some of the sites are not yet online – or offline again. This is probably only a very small part of the currently widespread scam. In the emails, on the other hand, some of the criminals pretend to be Unicef.

At the end of the day, before you donate anywhere, check the imprint, other activities of the organization and whether and how it has occurred so far. Check whether you have landed on the real website and also check wallet addresses more closely. In general, it is safer for you if you donate to well-known organizations where you can be sure that the money will go to the right places.
