The national deputy of the Frente de Todos Eduardo Valdés hinted this Sunday that the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, supports impeachment petition that President Alberto Fernández requested against the Supreme Court and that in the coming days will begin to be debated in the Impeachment Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.
“The deputies of the Frente Renovador space, which make up the impeachment commission, have participated in the Zoom meetings and have never raised anything different from what we are raising. Among the 15 we have signed, are all the political spaces” , indicated the official legislator who led the collective signing of the project, in an interview with Radio Rivadavia.
Massa, like Cristina Kirchner, has not been publicly expressed on the initiative of the Executive Power, although three deputies from his space (Renovation Front) make up the commission that must give the opinion to debate the initiative in the lower house. Valdés knew how to integrate the circle of trust of Alberto Fernández, with whom he shared years of militancy in the Buenos Aires PJ, but for months he has moved closer to the vice president.
Valdés explained the arguments behind the trial request to the Court
Among the arguments, Valdés stated that the request to remove the judges from the highest court of justice “is specifically the poor performance, in the case of federal co-participation.” “The Constitution establishes that the governors are natural agents of the federal State, who asked the court to be amicus curiae and they did not respond,” he added.
Despite the fact that the request to remove Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rosenkrantz, Ricardo Lorenzetti and Juan Carlos Maqueda from office does not have much chance of advancing in Congress, the Government is convinced that “the evidence is very compelling” and does not rule out the resignation of one or more members of the highest court before the end of the judicial process, Valdés said.
Regarding the request for a judgment to the Court, Valdés maintained: “it is specifically the bad performance, in the case of federal co-participation”
“In 2003 or 2004, which were the last antecedents of impeachment to the Court, Nazareno presided. President Néstor Kirchner began to substantiate the impeachment and the evidence was so compelling that three judges resigned to avoid being convicted and to maintain the retirement of privilege”, recalled Valdés. “We trust that the evidence is very compelling and we hope that they do like the two who stayed (Boggiano and Moline O’connor) and were convicted. We want them to defend themselves,” he said.
The deputy close to Kirchnerism also commented on the alleged chats between the City’s Minister of Security and Justice, Marcelo D’Alessandro, and Silvio Robles, right-hand man of the president of the Court, Horacio Rosatti. “The situation of the telephones between Robles and the Minister of Justice of Larreta is a dialogue between Rosatti and Larreta, where they propose to accommodate the ruling. There are a series of circumstances in this instance that involve the four ministers and that is why they are susceptible to this impeachment,” he explained.
Finally, he questioned the role of the opposition in this measure and defined the legislators of Juntos por el Cambio as “lawyers” of the Supreme Court. “Now they are going to participate in the political trial, but not in the extraordinary sessions to create universities. It is not justified that they do one and not another. It is their duty,” she concluded.
