Edward Norton had an illustrious ancestor. The actor ofAmerican History Xwho grew up hearing about his family’s supposed ties to the real Pocahontas, recently had confirmation that he was her direct descendant.

“Pocahontas is effectively your twelfth great-grandmother,” historian Henry Louis Gates Jr confirmed to her on the show. Finding Your Rootsbroadcast on the American channel PBS.

“You are his direct descendant,” assured him the facilitator. “Without a possible doubt.” So far, the actor recently seen in Glass Onion had always believed it to be a “family legend”.

A slave owner great-grandfather

The story of Pocahontas, which inspired a cartoon at Disney, is one of the founding myths of the United States. Daughter of Chief Powhatan, she married settler John Rolfe in 1614 before leaving with him for the United Kingdom, where she died in 1617.
