Washington, Apr 10 (EFE).- The President of Egypt, Abdelfatah al Sisi, ordered his government officials to produce more than 40,000 rockets to send to Russia, according to documents leaked on Monday to the US newspaper The Washington Post.

The classified documents to which the US media had access and which were published on the social platform Discord, show a series of conversations between al Sisi and his government officials about the possible sale of arms to Russia.

In one of them, dated February 17 of this year, the Egyptian president instructs a high-ranking official to secretly order the production of weapons to “avoid problems with the West,” according to information published in the American medium.

In the same document, the official said he would order his employees to work hard to produce the weapons because it is the “least Egypt can do to repay Russia for its past aid.” It is not specified, however, what type of aid it refers to.

A US government source assured the Post that the US is not aware that such an agreement between Russia and Egypt has materialized.

For its part, the Egyptian embassy in the US did not confirm the veracity of the document to the newspaper and limited itself to ensuring that the Al Sis government has a position of non-intervention regarding the war in Ukraine.

The leak of this document comes a few days after a series of leaks were known on Twitter and Telegram of original documents in the possession of the Pentagon with data on arms deliveries to Ukraine and references to the capabilities of Ukrainian battalions.

In a press conference on Monday, John Kirby, one of the White House spokesmen, explained that senior US officials have been in contact with some of Washington’s closest allies “at the highest levels” for the past few days to talk about the recent leaks.

In addition, Kirby assured that the Joe Biden government is doing everything possible to identify the source of the leak, but has not yet been able to do so.
