Eiichiro Oda demanded that Netflix not change two details of the One Piece manga in the live action series

It will be next August 31 when the adaptation of One Piece lands on Netflix. The live action based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga aims very high and that only the saga of the East Blue is going to be shown where the journey of the Straw Hat pirates begins.

Throughout the trailers that we have been able to see and the official synopses shared by the streaming platform, it is clear that we will have certain changes regarding the events experienced on the pages. However, the author made it very clear that two details should be immovable in case of accepting the production. This is revealed by Matt Owensseries showrunner:

The two biggest things that Oda wanted to make sure to keep as close to the manga as possible were:

1. The backgrounds of the Straw Hats, because they’re central to who they are as a person, what their dreams and motivations are, and how Luffy delves into that as he gets to know them and helps them rediscover those dreams. That emotional core of the show was very important.

And 2. The powers. The specific powers of the Devil Fruits and other abilities were carefully created by Oda, and there was already a lot of imagination in what different people could do and what the rules were with that, so we were asked not to change it.

That is to say, the powers of the Gomu Gomu no Mi will remain intact, as well as other Devil Fruits that we get to see, just like Buggy. The rules of these skills will be respected, as well as the origin of the main members of the live action of one piece.

As we have already seen, Arlong appears in the Baratie restaurant, which is not correct if we look at how everything developed in the manga. In addition, Luffy, Nami and Zoro will team up directly in the first episode, when in reality the swordsman was the first crew member of the Going Merry.
