Daichi Kamada has admitted that he was close to moving from Eintracht Frankfurt to Benfica in the summer. On ‘DAZN’ the Japanese playmaker says: “When I wanted to change clubs in the summer, it was Oliver Glasner who was able to convince me to stay.” The coach really wanted to keep Kamada – and he was right in his assessment.
In the current season, the 26-year-old has already collected an impressive 16 points. With Glasner, however, it was sometimes worse. Kamada remembers: “Things didn’t go too well with the manager at the start of last season, to be honest.” At that time, Kamada also came from the bank – not to his liking at all. In the summer of 2023, the supple right-footer can now make a free transfer, with Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona, among others, being interested. It is unlikely that he will extend his expiring contract with the Europa League winners.
