El Chiringuito records Xavi committing a driving violation that could cost him 6 points

An act as everyday as driving can be expensive for Xavi Hernndez. The Barcelona coach was caught by the El Chiringuito cameras leaving training last Monday with his mobile phone in his hand. The car was moving and the one from Terrasa seemed to be recording audio or in the middle of a call.

The seemingly harmless sequence has gone viral on social media. In fact, the very publication of the Twitter account of the program presented by Josep Pedrerol was filled with users who mentioned the General Directorate of Traffic and even the Municipal Police or the Civil Guard.

Since January 21, 2002, using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited in Spain in application of the Traffic and Road Safety Law. The directive, even prior to the application of the points license, contemplated a fine of up to 602 euros and the withdrawal of the driving license during three months.

The latest regulations regarding the use of mobile phones for drivers came into force on March 21, 2022. In addition to using, holding it in your hand (…) or driving using mobile phone devices manually in conditions different from the previous ones , It is also prohibited to manipulate the navigation system while the car is running. GPS cannot be placed on the windshield either.

200 euros and 6 points

Failure to comply with article 18.2 of the General Traffic Regulations entails a fine of 200 euros – 100 prompt payment – and the loss of six points on your driving license. Even so, for the sanction to be applied, a complaint from an authority agent or proof that the violation has been committed, obtained with traffic cameras, is essential.
