El Paso Police (EPPD) officers identified the victim as Daniel Antonio Mergil, who had a gunshot wound when he was found in a white 2012 Chevrolet Malibu that crashed into a tree and ended up in a rocky landscape in the front yard. of a house across from North Desert Park.

Mergil died at a hospital after the crashed car was found at 3:11 am Saturday in front of the home in the 5900 block of Ameen Drive, police said. Mergil was a resident of the Northeast.

The death is being investigated by homicide detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit. Police officials described the case as the fifth murder of 2023.
