Twitter CEO Elon Musk wants to hand over his chief post to a successor. He announced this on Twitter on Thursday. It will start in about six weeks, they say. He will continue to play a leadership role as the company’s chief technology officer, Musk said. In this role, he will continue to look after the product and software division, writes the billionaire.

The resignation had already been expected

The announcement comes months after Musk December 2022 promised to step down as head of Twitter once he found someone “dumb enough to do the job,” as he put it at the time. Tesla Shareholder had pressured Musk because they feared he wouldn’t have enough time for Tesla if he was not only Tesla CEO but also head of Twitter.

After the acquisition of Twitter in October 2022 Musk had made extensive changes to the company and its platform. In an effort to significantly reduce costs, the company has about 75 percent of its 7,500 employees fire. Musk had for Twitter $44 billion paid.

Immediately afterwards, Musk fired Twitter boss Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal and chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde. Musk had accused Twitter executives of misleading him and investors about the number of fake accounts on the social media platform.

Since then, Musk had introduced numerous changes to the platform, among others Twitter Bluea premium service for the blue tick and other additional functions on the platform.
