The Surf City ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship 2023 culminated this Saturday with the men’s and women’s final, which brought with it many emotions and high-level waves at El Sunzal beach. The French showed their dominance in the specialty by crowning Antoine Delpero, in the men’s, and Alice Le Moigne, in the women’s, world champions.

The Frenchman Antoine Delpero won the competition with a score of 16.10, after handling the waves with great audacity, and surpassed the Brazilian Carlos Bahia (15.17), who was left with the second place and his brother Edouard Delpero (14.33) and the Filipino Rogelio Esquievel (12.57).

The men’s final was very dramatic and the best surfers in the tournament went head to head for the title. With two minutes to go before the final whistle, Antoine Delpero managed to tame a wave that allowed him to take first place, which he did not let go of throughout the series and ended up taking the title. With an emotional hug he celebrated with his brother the fruit of the work carried out throughout these six days of competition.

“I am very excited, very happy to win, it feels incredible, thank you all for seeing us, I can’t say more”, expressed a very excited Delpero next to his brother.

In the case of the women’s final, it was the French Alice Le Moigne who stood out and took first place in the championship after reaching a score of 14.46 and surpassing the Peruvian María Reyes (13.60) who obtained silver, the Brazilian Chloe Calmon (11.97) and his compatriot and Zoé Grospiron (9.50).

Le Moigne was very emotional after her victory and assured that the key to this was the concentration she had after reaching the final, seeing it as her great opportunity.

“I focused on myself, I said ‘now it’s the final, put in and do everything you can to do in this’, and I’m very happy (to have won),” said the Frenchwoman.

The day ended with an incredible closing ceremony, in which the medals were awarded to the respective winners. In addition, surfers and the public were able to enjoy, as at the opening, the cultural diversity that the Surf City ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship 2023 brought to El Sunzal beach.
